3 Reasons for wanting to raise your own food or buy direct from the farm.
By Mary Hill
I do not claim to be an expert by any means.
But this is how I see it.
1. What is being fed to the animals that you are buying products from in the store? How are the animals cared for? Are they in a pen or stall where they never can go out and get fresh air, eat grass. Etc… How healthy is that for the animal and for you who are eating or drinking the products from that animal? Are they giving growth hormones, antibiotics
etc.?
2. What is added to your meats, milk, cheese etc… preservatives, coloring etc… and what is the effect of those chemicals on your body?
3. How healthy are the products you are buying? You don’t know where the meat, milk or cheese really came from. Try asking at the store where the meat came from. They can sometimes tell you the distributor or packing plant but not the farm that raised the animal.
These are just some of the questions I asked myself before I started my farm.
Now, Today, Since we started our
farm,
Here are the answers to the questions above.
We do not feed chemical or antibiotic feeds.
We do not use hormones of any type.
Our animals are pastured or range fed and our barn and outbuildings are totally cleaned every weekend.
I can show you the food that my guys eat, where they live and how we care for them.
That is something that the store cannot offer.
Quality is something that can be measured!
So many people give up quality for price.
But what are you really giving up?
We get a lot of customers with food allergies, such as cow’s milk from the store. Are they truly allergic to the milk itself or is it the processing, additives or what is being taken away or altered in the pasteurization
process?
We can not give customers the same prices as in the stores but we can give them the piece of mind of knowing what they are eating and
drinking and Where it came from.
We raise free range chickens and
offer large brown eggs.
Certified and pastured Nubian and Oberhasli Dairy
goats.
Certified and pastured Miniature Jersey cows and
Miniature Hereford cows.
Often we have some of our goats and/or miniature
cows for sale.
Pastured heritage pigs that are fed all natural
feed and are probably some of the finest pork found
anywhere.
